Design has taken me from Denmark to Colombia, the UK and back again.

For more than four decades, my work has been driven by a fascination with design, interiors, materials and the way people experience spaces.

My career has taken me through three countries and many different areas of the creative world from window displays and fashion to retail design, architecture, furniture, lighting, ceramics, leather, corporate clothing and residential interiors.

What connects it all is a simple idea: good design should have character, purpose and a sense of place.

Denmark: The beginning

I grew up and studied in Herning before moving to Copenhagen, where I began my professional career as a head of interior design and window display.

This was where I developed my understanding of visual communication how colour, form, products and space can work together to create an experience.

Colombia: 1981–1998

In 1981, I moved to Colombia and joined Jackson Fashion as head of interior design and window display. The following year I took a similar position with Jeans & Jackets.

In 1983, I established my own design studio, initially specialising in retail environments, shops and restaurants. As the studio grew, architects joined the team and our work expanded into residential projects.

Working internationally soon became an important part of my business. Some of the products required for our projects were not manufactured in Colombia, so I began importing specialist products from Denmark, including mannequins from Peiter Marth and fireplaces from Scan Pejse.

But design was only one part of the story.

From 1984, I developed a production business making leather accessories and clothing, with products sold throughout Colombia. I participated in fashion shows and made television appearances to promote the collections.

In 1986, I opened a ceramic factory. Production began with dinnerware and later expanded into lamps and lampshades. The products were sold in Colombia and exported to neighbouring countries.

From 1989, I also designed and produced corporate clothing for major banks, offices, factories and other organisations.

Towards the end of my time in Colombia, I began importing Danish applied art, including products from Sødahl Design, bringing Scandinavian design to the Colombian market.

In 1998, I was offered the position of General Consul for Denmark in Colombia. It was a remarkable opportunity, but I had just accepted a position in the United Kingdom and decided to continue my journey there.

United Kingdom: 1998–2023

In 1998, I moved to the UK and became Managing Director/CEO of a company specialising in the design, sale and distribution of display equipment for the music retail sector.

Our clients included major names such as Virgin, WHSmith, Morrisons, Sainsbury's and Tesco.

In 2000, I established my own design studio again, working on both commercial and residential projects. Over the following two decades, the studio worked on hotels, restaurants, cafés, private homes, extensions and interior refurbishments.

Alongside the design studio, I developed a number of long-term international sales and distribution businesses.

I represented and introduced several Scandinavian and European manufacturers to the UK and Irish markets, including:

KP Lampen, Denmark — high-quality exterior lighting
Micro Slat, Spain — specialist aluminium display systems
Unik Funkis, Denmark — high-end windows and doors
Mostoles SL, Spain — specialist retail display equipment
Bases A/S, Denmark — maintenance free carports, walkways and terrace covers

These businesses brought me into contact with some of the UK's best-known retailers, companies and organisations, including Harrods, Boots, Selfridges, House of Fraser, New Look, Currys, PC World and many others.

The work was not simply about selling products. It involved opening new markets, developing relationships, understanding the needs of architects and clients, and making sure that design ideas could actually be manufactured, delivered and installed.

Denmark: 2023 to the present

In 2023, after many years in the UK, I returned to Denmark and moved my design studio back to Copenhagen.

My connection with the UK continues, including the sale, export and import of Unik Funkis products.

In 2025, I spent six months working as a liaison officer during the Danish Presidency of the Council of the European Union, adding another international chapter to a career that has always crossed borders.

What I do

Today, I bring together more than forty years of experience across design, interiors, retail, architecture, manufacturing, product development and international business.

I enjoy working on projects where creativity and practical experience come together, whether that means developing an interior concept, transforming an existing space, finding the right materials and products, or helping a manufacturer enter a new market.

I have never seen design as something that exists in isolation.

For me, design is about ideas and making those ideas work in the real world.
